When in Brunei: Royal Regalia Museum

Whenever time permits, I always try dropping by museums in every country that I visit. It's like a pit stop to know a portion of the country's history, arts, and culture. During my solo travel in Brunei, I visited the majestic Royal Regalia Museum.
Locally known as Bangunan Alat Kebesaran Diraja, the Royal Regalia Museum houses different artifacts used during royal ceremonies such as costumes, weapons, and also jewelries. At the lobby, it also displays an interesting exhibit to commemorate the 25 years of the sultan's rule in Brunei.
For me, the highlight of the museum are the numerous gifts of different world leaders to the sultan of Brunei that are all displayed in glass cabinets extending from one wing of the museum to the other. One can imagine how much valuable gifts the sultan received that there is a separate place to display them.

Also, visitors should not miss seeing the "golden arm," something which I found a bit unusual. Located somewhere in the middle of the museum, a local friend who accompanied me explained that the golden arm was actually used to hold the chin of the sultan during coronation. Interesting, right? Unfortunately, taking photos isn't allowed inside this museum and so I cannot show it.

Taking photos is only allowed in selected areas, which includes the area for the huge golden chariot and ceremonial umbrellas at the left side from the entrance door. All bags and other personal belongings must be surrendered at the reception. Lockers are provided.

This museum is amazingly free admission. I believe it's funded by the government. It is well-maintained, all-carpeted, and air-conditioned.
Going inside the museum requires being barefoot. Shoes may be placed at the shoe rack outside the museum. Upon entrance, visitors are requested to log personal information at the reception and get locker keys if needed.
