When in Brunei: Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque

One of the reasons why I decided to see Brunei is because of this amazing architecture. Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is definitely a main attraction in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei’s capital. Seeing the mosque come alive made the trip all worth it.

This mosque was named after the 28th sultan of Brunei, Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III. It is considered as one of the most beautiful Islamic mosques in Asia. The clean-looking white and gold color is such a relaxing thing to see.

I can say that the mosque has been well-maintained. The entire area was clean and organized. It was also very quiet inside. Upon entrance, proper attire must be observed. The shoulders, arms, and legs must not be exposed. In case you are wearing improper clothing, long black vestment near the entrance door must be worn. Shoes must also be removed.
Non-Muslims are welcomed inside. I am a Roman Catholic and it was my first time to enter a mosque in my life. Although we have some mosques in the Philippines too, I've never tried entering them.
Another interesting and important site is the 16th century Sultan Bolkiah Mahligai replica barge floating on the man-made lagoon. This symbolic barge commemorates traditional Quran reading competitions. It is located at the other side of the mosque, This area also has a long marble path going to the water village Kampong Ayer.
